In an interview with Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Tom Vegh on 12 October 2026 Newmarket Today’s Joseph Quigley reported that

Vegh said he has only missed two Newmarket council or committee of the whole meetings and regional council meetings.*

This Editor’s Note was subsequently added to the story:

*According to attendance records, Tom Vegh missed six regional council meetings during the 2022-2026 term, one committee of the whole meeting, five Newmarket council meetings and six committee of the whole meetings — totalling 18 missed meetings. In response to our request for clarification, Vegh said he had intended to state that he had an average of two absences per each of the eight committees of which he is a member. He also explained the absences can be attributed to four knee surgeries in two years, and some recent family health issues.
